Tenant is a person to whom a landlord grants temporary and exclusive use of land or a part of a building, usually in exchange for rent. The contract for this arrangement is called a lease. 

Other definitions for Tenant:

  • someone who pays rent to use land or a building or a car that is owned by someone else; "the landlord can evict a tenant who doesn't pay the rent"
  • a holder of buildings or lands by any kind of title (as ownership or lease)
  • any occupant who dwells in a place

What is real estate?

Real estate, or immovable property, is a legal term (in some jurisdictions) that encompasses land along with anything permanently affixed to the land, such as buildings.
